You don't need to format the card to a specific format, the Imager does all that for you so whatever Google told you was wrong.

I suspect a bad SD card adapter on whatever device you are using the program the SD card. Is it built in to a laptop? Or the SD cad is just bad.

Which starter kit do you have?
