for what it's worth: I connected a waveshare screen to my Pi 4, and it worked. I had to ask for support from both Waveshare and Pi Hut. Both not helping too much, but both their respones AND a lot of YouTube searching, eventually did the trick. Unfortunately by that time I was in deep so much that I didn't take notes anymore. So I can't offer real help, other than my suggestion: YouTube is a much better source than you may think
