I suggest you may want ot look at LibreELEC(Kodi), see if that is what you are wanting to do.

To muddy the waters..
You can use an SSD and the price may make it better than a USB Pendrive, it will be a lot quicker normally. (standard 2.5" with a cable, not the newer NVMe one with a HAT, that's a bit more expensive.
You may actually be able to stick the Pendrive in the Pi5, boot the Pi5 with ethernet connected and install the OS on the Pendrive that way at boot, I know it work for uSD cards. I only say might as I've not tried a Pendrive this way.
There is now Connect from RaspberryPi that is an alternate remote desktop method, this will not do fullscreen display video streaming though.
As mentioned, on RaspberryPi OS both Chromium and Firefox are installed by default. Not Chrome though, but I doubt you need it, you don't have the Sign in & Sync feature of Chrome.
I don't have Netflix so cannot comment. Other similar streamers worked fine though.
