I'd be willing to make a small wager that that is the source of the OP's issue(s). That somehow, the new driver (what you are calling "ntfs3") is now the default, and as is the case with most "new" things in the world of computing, the bugs aren't completely out of it yet. This situation will give the impression that the new version doesn't work very well.On bookworm you could try changing that ntfs-3g to ntfs3. That will use the newer ntfs3 kernel driver instead of the old ntfs-3g userspace driver. You should see an improvement in performance.
