Actually, it has kept me quite happy indeed. No need to "upgrade" to the Pi5 (or any other version that doesn't work).

And there are no "issues" to report.
I am with you on that. Just because something is now deprecated, isn't being developed further, it doesn't mean it no longer works. It should work just as well as it ever did and all the code developed which used that should keep working just fine.

It's only when you upgrade OS or move to different hardware where it doesn't work is there a problem - Though there are also potential problems with not upgrading OS or using older hardware.

It's a PITA deciding what to do; stick with the old, or upgrade to the new which may mean ripping up everything you've done, reimplementing anew. That can mean a steep learning curve, a lot of frustration, effort and debugging. All with the risk that it may change again with even more 'rip it up and start again' effort.

It's one of the reasons some businesses are reluctant to support Linux, because supporting something built on shifting sand can mean a lot of unscheduled, unexpected, not budgeted for, work.

I was eager to upgrade to Bookworm even before it was released but bugs, missing features and changes in that kept me from doing so. I am still, almost a year later, using my old Pi 3B (non-plus) and Buster as my day-to-day Pi because that's working and I haven't found the time to make code which won't work on Bookworm do so.

If I chose to upgrade to a Pi 5 I would have no choice but to update my code so it does work on that or forego using it, and would also have to accept things I use won't ever work on a Pi 5. So, like you, a Pi 5 isn't currently useful for me. I can foresee myself sticking with my 3B and Buster for a while yet.

I half expect, that by the time I come to put the effort in, it won't be worth doing for Bookworm, that I will be better off waiting for Trixie. That will avoid having to do two fresh-installs and set-up, any 'rip it up and start again' Trixie may bring.

I am sure Bookworm and a Pi 5 is absolutely fine for millions of new users and those who haven't invested heavily in things which no longer work with either.

The moral is, as it always has been; don't invest in shifting sand without foreseeing the consequences of doing so, be prepared for a lot of wasted effort and reworking if you do, and don't expect any sympathy from those shifting the sand.
