1. Switch back to x from wayland and use vnc again (RealVNC still have a free tier) You do this in raspi-config
2. For ssh you'll have to have vpn at home as vnc does not do ssh. This would also let you use vnc even if you don't want to sign up for the free tier. For the VPN you'll have to make changes to your router so it forwards the correct ports to your VPN server. For VPN you can use PiVPN.
Note that some ISPs block VPN, so you're at their mercy if it does not work for you. There are ways around this too, but you'll have to pay for those options.
I'm not versed in SMB.
