I don't recall that I suggested doing it "willy-nilly". I think you are the one who lives in a strange world, and you say it "makes no sense", yet you reverse field in the sequel, and state that you're already working on the idea...???
You did suggest "willy-nilly" - you had users randomly requesting GPIOs on a whim. Merriam-Webster defines it as "in a haphazard or spontaneous manner". Check.

Wrt the daemon, again, stating facts.

The daemon has been worked on for years, on and off, and not by me but as part of libgpiod, so don't go thinking anyone has stolen your brilliant idea - it wasn't yours in the first place.
Given it is taking so long, my interim solution was the gpioset --interactive mode in v2.
And that was written in early 2022, to give you some idea how long the daemon has been a WIP.

I understand you guys would find it useful to cover the remaining use cases we don't currently cover well, and I've passed that on the daemon dev  . He will try to give it more priority, but he is quite busy so it might not get the urgent attention you would like. It is something I would like to see too.
