Ah I see. Yeah I think I'm going to purchase that one but I just wanted to confirm how the nuts/safe shutdown thing worked. I searched on the network ups/nuts site for that specific unit but couldn't find it so I assume it's not compatible but on the product page (2nd slide) it implies that there's some sort of automatic shut down being sent to the devices when they pull power from the UPS.Most network gear has fairly low power requirements, so having modem/router and any switches on either the same or another UPS has much to recommend it.When you mention UPS scenarios, I would fall into the 1st option but even then, I really just want my Pis to be able to safely shutdown. I don't need them running since my network would also go down in the event of a power outage so I would just need them to run for like less than a minute to shutdown safely. I'm just paranoid that all these random power outages/interruptions would one day inevitably cause some form of physical damage or data corruption.
If it's *just* the Pi, the 400VA unit you're looking at will probably run it for quite some time. How long depends on the total energy capacity of the battery. (And--FYI--some UPSes can have additional battery capacity added.)
On the whole, your concerns and solution are well founded.
If nuts 100% isn't supported and if I misinterpreted the 2nd slide, I'd probably still purchase it as you do make a good point that it would last a long while. Having 2 Pis running I think they would be able to go for 24 hours just fine as the power outages I experience only last a couple hours (and that's mainly because of wildfire season). Was mainly concerned with power interruptions since the infrastructure where I'm in is quite old and my electricity provider (PG&E) doesn't have a great reputation either lol. Thanks btw!
