First,

I made a stupid typo is my post.

I didn't put
into /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf

I actually put
into /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf


Which of couese explains your response.

But then you siad 'use nmtui' which is expressly what I said I needed not to do.

I need to use /etc/network/interfaces in order to do what I need to do next.

I have corrected my original post. If anybody can help without telling me 'to use something else' (as I asked in my original post) that help would be very much appreciated!
