General discussion • Re: No RPi 5 for me.

I've owned every model of the RPi since the very first. But I won't be buying the Rpi 5. When I can buy a refurbed HP EliteDesk 800 G2 mini with an 3.1 ghz quad core i5 6500 CPU, 16gb DDR4 and 240gb NVMe SSD for $125, the cost of the RPi 5 just doesn't make sense to me. Am I wrong?
should buy what you want.

i can't speak for others, but i've always been use to building my own system from parts.
in the case of the rpi, every one has a different want for using it.

i just happen to get an rpi5 in a trade, so it was basically free for me.

i can choose my on case, add hats or whatever i want to it. it's up to me what i want to do with it.

currently i have the power supply on order.
i just used spare parts to try and keep it cool.
haven't decided how i'm going to dress it up or if i even want to put money into it.
point is i'm not stuck or limited in use.
Those small heatsinks are an abomination. Their contribution to the cooling of the components are absolutely negligeable and they collect dust and grime. Removing them is a nightmare after the sticky parts are hardened. Whoever came up with that idea should be punished. A heatsink is only as good as its surface area, and especially for the Pi 5, it should be a lot bigger, like a lot.
They come off with a bit of fishing lines or other resilient type of thread. Loop around it and tighten around it at the level where the chip and the heatsink interface. The heatsink will come right off. You can clean residue off the chip with something like goof off (a brand here in the US).
