Thanks I missed that previous comment about Wayland. I will try that. That was one of my suspects.
Not relevant but speed Eclipse is not really the problem for me as I only use it to compile my code and the build chain is based on Ant so I can skip Eclipse altogether. I was only raising the Eclipse issue as I thought that would be a bigger problem for people and got some more attention.
Of course getting Eclipse to run on Pi would be good if/when I need to do some Pi specific debugging. But all development I do on macOS.
The real problem is that my app buttons look broken on bookworm, but I expect that is also related to Wayland.
