I would think if you where going HBA over PCIe then you are looking at either the Pi 5B or the Compute Module - Mr Geerling has a list of PCIe cards he has / is testing at https://pipci.jeffgeerling.com but I think testing is paused due to his office move.

There are a few USB to SAS adapters - e.g. INDMEM or Sinobright advertise them. Never tried any though and at least one picture shows an 'Oracle' manufactured drive :roll:

I've also never tried a SAS to SATA converter cables either but there seems to be lots of them around and they are low cost - possibly get one of these as a first try?
