The offical display has some advantages: likely to work reliably, mounting for the Pi, integrated power feed for the Pi, built-in driver board; and also disadvantages: cost, low(ish) resolution. How those balance depends on your use case.
I wanted a bigger 10" screen for making a copy of a Picade, and got the cheapest on ebay. Turned out to be a really good deal as one batch got mispriced at £33 instead of £73. It has a non-integrated driver board which was a pain to mount and uses HDMI rather than DSI, but it has been working reliably for years.
