Every bug report is treated the same, no matter where it comes from:
My understanding is the Samba bug hunters are more likely to get interested if Samba running on the Debian PC causes the same hang on the Pi.
Is it a valid bug ?
Has it already been fixed in a later version of Samba ?
Can it be replicated ?
and so on.
There appears to be a tremendous difference between the Samba code and the code that synology uses, this means that any tests I could come up with would probably fail on a synology device, I do not have access to the synology code.Do you have a suggested test configuration for running Samba on the PC that--of course all bets off--seems similar to the Synology?
That could help someone who's never set up a Samba server before.
For setting up a Samba standalone server, you could do worse than to start by reading the Samba wiki:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Main_Page
Specifically:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Settin ... one_Server
Or ask me.
If it can be reproduced on a wholly Samba server (not on a synology device), then, by all means raise a Samba bug report.Whether Debian in place of the NAS causes the same hang or not, I think it's an interesting data point worth collecting. As a sanity check it would be nice if someone else could reproduce the hang. My guess is only 2GB RAM might be important.
